Mapping your staff members from Clio into Hona gives you more flexibility and control over how your team members appear on projects synced from Clio.
Overview
Hona now supports:
Custom field-based role mapping from Clio to Hona
Primary contact selection for team members
Automatic support for Clio’s Responsible Staff field
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Add Custom "Team Member" field in Clio
In Clio, navigate to Settings > Custom Fields. Click "Add" at the top right and enter a role that you would like mapped to Hona (e.g., Case Manager, Paralegal, Intake Specialist).
Select "Contact Select" as the Type
Select Default so this field is added to all relevant matters where team members should be synced to Hona.
2. Configure Role Mapping in Hona
In Hona, navigate to the Team section under Company Settings
Scroll down until you see the green "+ Role" button on the bottom right and click it.
For each role you want to map, enter the exact name of the corresponding Clio custom field that you created into the CRM Name input.
Once this is set, Hona will automatically use those fields when syncing projects to assign the correct team members.
3. Set a Primary Contact Role (Optional)
Within the role mapping settings, you’ll see an option labeled:
“Make team members with this role the primary contact?”If selected, Hona will designate the team member in that role as the Primary Contact on the project.
Note:
Only one role per company can be marked as the primary contact.
If no role is selected as primary, Hona will default to using the Responsible Attorney field from the Clio matter.
Support for Clio’s “Responsible Staff” Field
Hona now also supports the Responsible Staff field recently added by Clio. This field allows for an additional team member to be synced automatically.
If a Clio matter includes a Responsible Staff member, that person will automatically be pulled into the Hona project.
To make this team member visible in Hona:
Create a team member role in Hona (e.g., Staff Lead, Project Manager)
Set the CRM Name to
Responsible Staff
This ensures that the Responsible Staff member will appear on the Hona project under the assigned role.
