Connecting Hona to ChatGPT or Claude

Connect the AI tools you already use to your firm's live Hona data.

Written by Product Team

You can connect the AI tools you already use to your firm's Hona data. Once connected, you ask about your caseload the way you would ask a colleague, and the answers come from live data. Nobody has to run an export first.

You need a Hona account and an AI client that supports custom connectors. ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor all do.

The address

There is one address, and it is the same for every firm:

There is no company number to look up. Sign in with your Hona account and the connector finds the firms you belong to.

Connecting

  1. Open your AI client's connector or integrations settings and choose to add a custom one.

  2. Paste https://api.hona.com/hona/mcp as the address and confirm.

  3. A Hona sign-in page opens in your browser. Sign in as you normally would.

  4. Hona asks you to approve the connection. This step is expected. It is where you tell Hona that this client may act as you.

  5. You land back in your AI client. Ask it "what can you tell me about our cases?" to confirm it is working.

The whole thing takes about a minute.

Everything you can ask it

The rest of this page is the full list. You do not need to memorize any of it. Ask in your own words and the connector picks the right thing. It is written out here so you can see the whole surface rather than guess at it.

Some sections depend on which Hona products your firm has. Those are marked.

There are 42 ready-made reports. Every one of them accepts a date range, and most can be grouped or filtered further.

Looking up records directly

When you want the underlying rows rather than a report, the connector can query these directly, by whatever you happen to know about them:

Cases, clients and contacts, conversations, messages, escalations, tasks, notes, files, case assignments, leads, case events, calendar event types, provider tasks, Care Coordinator enrollments, forms, form submissions, e-signatures, and email threads.

It can also list your teammates and their notification settings.

Your firm's own numbers

The connector can run the same queries that sit behind screens in the Hona app, so a number you quote from it matches the number on the screen your team already uses. Ask it what is available and it will tell you which of those screens your firm has.

Notifications

  • See and change your own notification settings

  • See and change a client's notification and contact preferences

Exports

Any answer can be turned into a real spreadsheet file. Ask for it as a spreadsheet and you get one, rather than a table pasted into the chat.

Care Coordinator

Requires Care Coordinator

  • See your Care Coordinator settings

  • Update the coordinator's prompts

  • Create, update and delete escalation rules

  • Update the follow-up policy

  • Check the status of a case context pull

  • See recent case agent activity

Demands

Requires the demands workspace

  • Create a demands case, and list or open existing ones

  • List the documents on a case

  • Read the content of a document

  • Get the current demand letter draft

  • Get the gap analysis for a case

  • Start demand generation, and check its status

  • Start document processing

  • Request upload slots to add case files

Provider Liaison

Requires Provider Liaison

  • Send an authorization document for e-signature

What you will see

What you can reach through the connector is exactly what you could already reach in Hona: the same firms, the same permissions. Connecting does not widen anyone's access. A paralegal sees a paralegal's view, an administrator sees an administrator's.

The list of things your connector offers is also built for your firm specifically. If your firm does not have the demands workspace, those tools are not offered at all rather than offered and refused.

If your firm has more than one organization

Connect once. The connector picks up every organization your account belongs to, so a firm running five or more organizations no longer needs a separate connector for each one.

If you are already connected

Connectors set up against an older, firm-specific address keep working exactly as they are. There is nothing to migrate and no deadline. The single address above is simply what new setups should use.

What it does not do

This is the part worth reading before your first session, so it goes the way you expect.

  • It does not show you another firm's numbers. Your peers' included. It only reaches the firms your own Hona account belongs to.

  • It answers from Hona's record, not your case management system's. If your case management system holds something Hona does not sync, such as notes written over there or live task state, the connector will not have it.

  • It does not quietly act on your behalf. Anything that would reach a client shows you what it will say and waits for your approval.

  • It is not a replacement for your reporting. It is quickest at the question you would otherwise walk down the hall to ask.

  • Reading case documents happens in Lia, not here. The document corpus, including search across case files, is part of Lia on the web rather than the connector.

If it does not work

It worked for a month, then stopped

Connections expire after 30 days and need approving again. Remove the connector and add it again. It takes the same minute as the first time.

You see an "invalid redirect" message when signing in

The AI client you are using is not one Hona has approved yet. Tell your Hona account team which client and version you are using, and it can be added.

It signs in but finds no firm

The account you signed in with is not a member of the firm you expected. Check which account your browser was already signed in as. That is usually the cause.

If none of these describe what you are seeing, talk to your Hona account team.
